Dancer Turned Million Dollar Stock Market Investor:

Nicolas Darvas, an economics student from Budapest, was interested in becoming a ballroom dancer just like his sister.

His dancing career took him to Toronto, Canada in 1952. Here, at the Toronto Club, the owners, Smith Brothers offered to pay Nicolas for his performance, in form of shares of Brilund Mining Company worth 3000 Canada Dollars.

Nicolas found this offer weird but had no options. He took those shares and kept travelling places.

For two months Nicolas Darvas was busy with his work assignments. Then one fine day, while reading the newspaper, Nicolas bumped with joy. The shares of Brilund Company which he had purchased for 50 cents each had gone up to $ 1.90. So his total investment of $ 3,000 in Brilund Company’s shares had gone up to $ 11,000.

With some confidence in the profit earned, Nicolas moved to America to trade on Wall Street. But most of his trades were based on tips from brokers and were not profitable much. In fact, he found out that by placing 20 trades a day he was losing the most in brokerage.

Nicolas understood that in order to earn huge money, he’ll have to trade in something huge and for which he is required to undergo a lot of study and analysis to find such shares.

So, he started reading for 6-8 hours a day and read more than 200 books only and only about stock market investing and all this while he kept performing in different cities.

Finally in 1957, he had his own trading strategy called Darvas Box Theory using which he turned $10,000 investment into $2 million over an 18-month period. And even wrote the bestseller book called “How I Made $2,000,000 in the Stock Market” and shared his success story.

Nicolas Darvas proved that anyone, even a Dancer can learn and earn from Stock market.
